Bolt clocks in with savage clapback after Kerley fails to break world record
Usain Bolt has fired off another cheeky response after American sprinter Fred Kerley failed to come close to breaking his legendary 100m world record at the controversial Enhanced Games in Las Vegas.
Kerley had boldly claimed before the race that Bolt’s iconic 9.58 seconds record would get “destroyed”, prompting the Jamaican sprint king to simply reply “OK” under a social media post about the comments.
But after Kerley clocked 9.97 seconds on Sunday night, nearly four tenths slower than Bolt’s historic mark, the eight time Olympic gold medallist appeared to have the last laugh.
Bolt shared a photo aboard a private jet with the caption “National Treasure #OK”, while dancehall star Vybz Kartel jumped into the comments section writing: “You still faster Dan e Jet ?”.
The post quickly sent social media users into a frenzy, with many interpreting it as a subtle jab at Kerley’s failed prediction.
The race itself turned chaotic after multiple false starts and delays, including runners being called out of the blocks several times because of movement and untied shoes.
Kerley eventually won the race in 9.97 seconds at the Enhanced Games, a controversial sporting event that allows the use of performance enhancing drugs under medical supervision.
Despite the hype, Kerley’s winning time would have placed him last in the men’s 100m final at the Paris Olympics, where he previously clocked 9.81 seconds to win bronze.
Bolt’s world record of 9.58 seconds, set at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, still stands as the fastest 100m time ever recorded.
