Bailey returns to Bundesliga today
Football agent Craig Butler says that his client, Bayer Leverkusen forward Leon Bailey, is eager to get back on the field as the Bundesliga continues its return to competition today.
On Saturday the Bundesliga became the first top European football league to resume action since the two month lay-off as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The rescheduled slate will conclude this afternoon as Leverkusen travels to 17th-place Werder Bremen at 1:30 p.m. Jamaica time.
Butler says that Bailey's mental toughness has been key during the period of inactivity and that he is pleased with the measures being put in place by the club in order for matches to be played
"Leon was prepared before he went [to Europe] so he is a tough kid. Germany has put in place a lot of strong protocols. They test them every day when they go to training, the fever is tested," Butler told STAR Sports. "He is excited, and I am excited because with all the other leagues out, the whole world will be watching, and so he is prepared."
Strict health protocols
The league's return has been under strict health protocols and no fans are in attendance. Around the grounds on Saturday, team staff and substitutes wore masks, while the latter were seated separately in the stands rather than on the bench in attempts to practise social distancing.
Bailey made 14 league appearances so far for Leverkusen this season scoring five goals and registering one assist. Earlier in the campaign, he was sidelined for six weeks due to injury. His last team appearance before the global shutdown of football was the Europa League round-of-16 first-leg match against Rangers on March 12, coming off the bench to score in their 3-1 win.
Leverkusen are in the hunt for Champions League qualification and are currently in fifth place with 47 points, four points away from fourth-place RB Leipzig, who drew 1-1 with Freiburg on Saturday.
