Harbour View Football Club's captain Trayvone Reid has been on a mission this season. Since the start of the Jamaica Premier League (JPL), Reid has almost singlehandedly been carrying Harbour View, scoring or assisting all six goals the former champions have netted in their six matches.

The 25-year-old, who was a key member of the Harbour View team that last won the JPL title, in 2022, said his main objective is to secure a spot on Jamaica's team to next year's FIFA World Cup Finals in United States, Canada and Mexico.

"For me this season is personal. As you know there is the World Cup coming up, so I have to perform to be there. So that's actually my aim right now," he told STAR Sports.

As a domestic player, getting into such a competitive squad - filled will overseas professionals - is not be easy. But he believes if he maintains this performance over the season the coaching staff might be forced to take notice of his exploits.

"I think it is more about consistency and I think I've had a good start so far. Six games, six goal-contributions - four goals, two assists. So it's more about doing the right things and I think I am doing the right things," he assessed.

"It would mean a lot to me and my communities, Tivoli and Harbour View, because it has been a while since a player from these communities has been in the national team. So for me, the clubs and the communities, it is going to be a big deal."

He admitted that there are areas of his game that he is working to improve every day.

"I think I can maintain this performance. As you can see it's six games and six goal-contributions. But there's a lot more work to be done and more contributions. So I've just got to take it one game at a time.

"But there are a few more things, in terms of off the ball movements and trying to build more connections with my teammates. I don't think the connection is there as yet, but we are working on it to get better as each game goes by," he said

CLIMB UP TABLE

On Sunday, Reid scored the lone goal from the penalty spot as Harbour View turned back Dunbeholden 1-0 to move four places up to ninth.

Although the team has a fairly new coach (Bjeon Thomas) and some inexperience players, Reid believes they are improving and growing in confidence, noting that the goal is to at least make the final this season

"Going forward there are a lot of improvements that need to be done. But we are going to get it done," he promised.

"So far it has been good. We have both experienced and inexperienced players, but we have a bunch of good players and we are learning and getting better as each game goes by. So I believe we will get there.

"Hopefully we can reach Concacaf (Caribbean Cup) again to give us a big boost. So things are going good. It can be better. But we are taking it a game at a time."
