Portmore United came from behind twice to beat Cavalier 4-2 in a pulsating, rain-drenched football match in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) at the Stadium East yesterday.

Former Cavalier player Ronaldo Robinson scored twice, as the former champions scored their first win in three matches to move to third in the table with 15 points, the same as second-place Racing United.

Portmore's head coach Rodolph Austin praised his team's character and offensive play, but thought they were below their usual defensive standard.

"I knew we could come back," he assured. "But I didn't like the way how we conceded two goals. We always defend well, we know how Cavalier play so we can't switch off. They are so good playing that first ball over the top and winning the second ball.

"But we showed character and came back and won it. We were struggling a bit (in the league) and to score four goals was impressive and I am happy with that," he said.

Austin added: "You want to be there around the top three, top two. That's our aim. Every game we play we have to play like our lives depend on it."

BEST START

Cavalier got off to the best possible start, as Daryl Massicot broke away and slotted past Daniel Russell with only seconds on the clock.

However, Portmore were unshaken by the early setback and roared back to grab an equaliser in the 19th minute when goalkeeper Demelcio Fer palmed the ball into the path of Robinson, who struck a firm shot past the goalkeeper.

The game swung in Cavalier's favour after the equaliser and Jamilhio Rigters tested Russell with two ferocious strikes, before Kwayne Thompson towered over the Portmore defence to head home from a corner on the half hour for a 2-1 lead.

However, Portmore came right back, as Peter McGregor beat Fer with a low drive to make it 2-2 three minutes after.

PENALTY

The St Catherine team took the lead after a foul inside the area and a penalty was awarded. Robinson converted the spot kick to make it 3-2, two minutes before the interval.

Cavalier started the second half in control, but failed to really break through Portmore's defence.

Portmore then took control after the hour and went further ahead, albeit from a goalkeeping error, as Fer let Romeo Guthrie's harmless free kick slip from his grasp and through his legs to score, to put Portmore 4-2 up in the 70th minute.

Cavalier assistant coach David Laylor said his players lost their discipline after taking the early lead.

"We got indisciplined quickly after that first goal. We were playing in transition but after that goal the players decided to lose it. And with the Portmore team as good as they are now, they are going to recover," he commented.

Cavalier remain fifth on 10 points.

FLETCHER'S BRACE

In the other game at Stadium East, Montego Bay United FC beat Molynes United FC 2-0 on a Jourdain Fletcher's brace to stay four points clear at the top of the table, on 19.

Second-place Racing United FC defeated Spanish Town Police FC 3-0 with goals from Tajay Grant, Giovanni Cunningham and Haile Beckles.

Racing have 15 points. Police's Anil Ferguson was shown the red card in the 43rd minute.

Mount Pleasant Football Academy got their second win in five matches after dispatching Chapelton Maroons 3-1 at Drax Hall. Claver Nugent, Raheem Edwards and Demar Phillips scored for Mount Pleasant. Zaire Pinnock got Chapelton's consolation.

The win lifted Mount Pleasant to seventh on nine points. Chapelton dropped to sixth with 10 points.

At Edward Seaga Sports Complex, host Tivoli Gardens FC with goals in each half from Rodico Wellington and Barrington Pryce, came from behind to beat Harbour View FC 2-1. Rohan Brown had given Harbour View the lead after three minutes.

Treasure Beach and Waterhouse ended 0-0 at St Elizabeth Technical High School. Three penalties were awarded in the match. Waterhouse missed two.

In the day's other contest, Dunbeholden and Arnett Gardens FC played out a goalless draw.
