Match made in Jaques Road - Viral couple Princess Diana and Bubi are madly in love

Despite being more than 10 years apart in age, new 'viral couple on the block, Princess Diana and Bubi, say they are proof that true love still exists and that age is just a number.

Princess Diana, given name Keisha Hammond, and Bubi (Devaney Bernett), are the talk of TikTok and have amassed more than 25,000 followers during their 18-month relationship.

"Mi love har and mi know she love mi. She is my princess," Bubi said as he rubbed her shoulder lovingly at their Jaques Road, east Kingston, home. Princess Diana said that when Bubi started throwing sweet verses in her direction last January, she didn't make much of it, but he was persistent.

"Mi always a say 'Likkle bwoy you think you can manage mi?' I liked him as a person and not as a lover at first. Him keep on coming to mi shop and him come and buy and sometimes mi tell him say it on the house and then we exchange numbers," she said. Two months later, she decided to give Bubi a chance while they were attending a party.

"I have been with persons my age and it never work out. Him reasoning to me come off like a big man in a small person. Mi friend say mi fi do what mi a do but mi must run mi background check to see if him have any woman," she said.

A man of few words, Bubi said that although Princess Diana is much older, he knew she was royalty and that she was the one with whom he wanted to spend the remainder of his life.

"When mi ask her something, she always just give me a good answer and yea, she is the one," he said. Neither intended for their relationship to register on social media the way it has.

"We always go out and video ourselves and likkle activities around the yard. One day mi a go to buy oxtail and mi just go up to him and tell him mi ago buy oxtail and him kiss mi. A week after dat, Bubi just put up the video and him bredda call him from camp and a say 'Bro yuh gone viral man, mi see yuh pon status'," she said.

Princess Diana admitted that neither she nor Bubi understood what 'viral' meant "because we a nuh really social media persons".

"People just start call we from all over and that was that," she said. Social media can be deceiving but Bubi said their love is just as tight off camera.

"We nuh hide nutten from each other. Even if mi have a dollar, she ago know say there is a dollar there and that happen right cross the board. She motivate mi and what mi love bout her mostly, she like mi fi have tings and mi love that," he said. The couple got engaged last October when Princess Diana was hosting her birthday party.

"Mi see him come round with two rose, real rose and him give them to mi and mi was astonished. Him say 'Babes, yuh would spend the rest a yuh life wid mi?' And mi eyes get teary. Him did in a white pants suh him never go all the way down, and him say 'Will yuh marry mi?' and people start video and was excited. Mi did just overwhelmed," she added.

Princess Diana has a 22-year-old son but she and Bubi are trying to have a child together. The couple said they were planning to tie the knot this October but decided to postpone it to accommodate a few of their loved ones who reside overseas. According to Princess Diana, she would love to do the nuptials on a beachfront property.

Despite much support, the duo said they are not spared from harsh criticism from some persons. But Princess Diana said that love wins.

"At first mi tell myself say ni nah go make dem get to mi. We know what we were getting ourselves into, well maybe not Bubi but me because he is the younger person. Him a look for a good woman who can motivate him, but mi would more get the criticism because I am older. Suh mi expect it. But as mi say, I have been with older person who has never showed me the respect that he has showed me. Because people on the outside looking in, dem don't know the foundation of the relationship suh dem can just talk. We brace ourselves for the bad comments," Princess Diana said.
