Accountant freed of fraud charge but name still stained

October 01, 2025

An accountant accused of using her company's credit card to defraud her employer of more than $160,000 has been freed in the St Catherine Parish Court, but her attorney says the damage to her reputation will take longer to repair.

Camay Beckford, a senior accountant of Old Harbour, St Catherine, had been charged with unauthorized access to computer data after allegations that she used her employer's credit card for personal transactions.

When the matter came before Senior Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle on September 30, 2025, the complainant informed the court that she no longer wished to pursue the case. The judge then dismissed the matter at the complainant's request.

Beckford's attorney, Rodain Richardson, welcomed the decision but stressed that the ordeal has left scars.

"While she welcomes the outcome, the damage to her reputation has already been done," Richardson said. "We do hope that she will now be allowed the chance to rebuild her career."

Allegations were that while employed at Home Choice Jamaica between June 1 and August 25, Beckford used the company's credit card to make multiple unauthorized transactions.

Following an internal probe, a report was made to the police, and she was later charged after a question-and-answer session in the presence of her attorney.
