Fatal stabbing at St Mary lock-up, inmate charged
A St Mary construction worker has been charged with the murder of a fellow inmate following a deadly incident at the Annotto Bay Police Station lock-up.
Twenty-three-year-old Nolando Atkinson, of Boscobel View, St Mary, was formally charged after a question-and-answer interview on Sunday, December 14. He is accused of stabbing 34-year-old contractor Eraldo Francis, of Tremolsworth, Highgate, to death during a disturbance at the facility on Saturday, December 6.
Reports from the Port Maria police indicate that shortly after midday, a disturbance broke out among inmates at the lock-up. Cops intervened to restore order, but Francis was found unresponsive with stab wounds to the chest. He was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation quickly ensued, and Atkinson was implicated based on statements collected from witnesses and fellow inmates. He is now facing a formal murder charge, while his court date is being finalised.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the deadly altercation.
