Southeast St Mary is facing severe flooding as heavy rains continue to pound the parish, leaving homes and businesses soaked and causing damage to furniture and electrical appliances.

The downpour, which began last Thursday, shows no signs of letting up, as murky floodwaters persist in communities across the area.

Member of Parliament for Southeast St Mary, Christopher Brown, explained that Annotto Bay, one of the hardest hit towns, sits below sea level, making it highly susceptible to flooding during periods of heavy rainfall.

Brown said the affected communities include Fort George, Annotto Bay, and Dover, which are among the parish's most flood-prone areas, highlighting the recurring challenge residents face during the rainy season.

Meanwhile, the police today issued an advisory informing that sections of the Huddersfield main road and the Stewart Town main road in St Mary are flooded, rendering the roadways impassable.

The police are urging motorists to exercise caution when travelling in the affected areas and to use the Rio Nuevo Resort to Stewart Town main road as an alternative route.
